Risks Factors for Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

Sharing is caring!

Blood pressure is the term used to measure the intensity of blood pumping through our blood vessels and veins until it reaches the heart. The measurement should always be kept at a balanced level, but many people tend to suffer from elevated blood pressure or pressure that is considerably below the normal rate. Both of these extremes can be very hazardous to our health and is not ideal to have. This pressure can be picked up by measuring different areas on the body by using a special instrument.

When a person has high blood pressure it alarms doctors and medical professionals more than people who suffer from low blood pressure. The simple reason is that it is easier to get low blood pressure up than it is to get high blood pressure down. High blood pressure often comes with harmful conditions and diseases which can affect the health of the person due to the high pressure in the system. Doctors can usually trace this high pressure by conducting systolic and diastolic pressure tests that run in accordance with the patient’s heartbeat.

Factors that cause high blood pressure

There is no one universal cause when it comes to the factors that might cause high blood pressure in a patient and can differ vastly when it comes to different people. It is not known why this condition is found in people, but doctors do know which factors lead up to the cause thereof.

A few cases show that high blood pressure can be a result of:

  • kidney problem,
  • narrowed arteries,
  • or physical abnormalities found in the aorta.
  • Family history and genes also play an important role in the carrying over of elevated blood pressure from one generation to the next. People who have an ancestral history of elevated blood pressure should take special care in order to prevent it from getting worse.

Emotional and mental factors that may cause high blood pressures:

  • Doctors have also been able to link stressful events to an elevation in people’s blood pressures.
  • Anger and agitation are both culprits to causing high blood pressure and doctors almost always advise people to lead calmer lifestyles. A rise in blood pressure of someone who already suffers from this condition may worsen their state. They might suffer from headaches and other side effects coming from high blood pressure.

Health and Lifestyle Factors that may cause high blood pressure:

  • The way a person lives, eats, and what he consumes will also influence the measurement of blood pressure.
  • Eating a lot of food that contain a high cholesterol content as well as fatty and greasy foods all contribute to a rise in blood pressure. The fats in these foods create a type of plaque around the arteries which allows the heart to work harder in order to pump more blood through the narrowed arteries.
  • Also, consuming food high in sodium also greatly increases your chances of high blood pressure.
  • Smoking is another unhealthy habit that can lead to high blood pressure. This hardens the arteries and blood vessels which makes it more difficult for the heart to produce enough blood to pass through these veins.
